Most travellers go to Veneto dazzled by Venice and neglect the rest. It’s a pity: the region offers many other attractions such as Giotto’s extraordinary frescoes in Padova or Verona’s wonderful Roman Arena; you can also find natural beauties in places like Cortina d’Ampezzo, one of the world’s most famous ski resorts.

REGIONAL CUISINES:
Rice is served with almost everything from peas to shellfish. Very tasty is risotto con nero di seppia, rice with ink of cuttlefish. Another typical dish is corn-based fried polenta with hearty game stews. The tiramisù is famous all over the world and it is originary of Veneto: it’s a rich dessert of mascarpone cheese, coffee, marsala sponge and chocolate. Among the wines try the Soave Bardolino.
TRADITIONAL FESTIVITIES:
In Padova on 13th June is celebrated the Festa di Sant’Antonio with a procession of the saint’s relics. Venice’s famous Carnevale is a ten-days street party in the run up to Ash Wednesday.
