TERRITORY:
The Lazio area has been ,since ancient times, an extension of Rome. Through the ages the rich built their villas in the Lazio cuontryside and many towns developed as the fielfdoms of noble Roman families. Don’t miss a tour of Etruria, the ancient land of the Etruscans: visit the tombs and museums at Cerveteri and Tarquinia. There are some hill-top towns to the south –east of Rome that are worth visiting such as Castelli Romani.

REGIONAL CUISINES:
Typical dishes are pasta alla carbonara,with eggs and bacon, pasta all’amatriciana and pasta pajata,with the entrails of very young veal,which are considered a delicacy as they contain the mother cow’s congealed milk. But the most important food is the pecorino romano,a type of cheese.

TRADITIONAL FESTIVITIES:
In Conigliano(near Rieti) durino the Carnival days people dance the Moresca, a typical dance with christian and turkish influences. In Castel di Tora on the second Sunday of July you can see the Ballo della Fantasima(Ghost Dance): a puppet representing a ghost dances and runs through the crowd and is finally enlightened with strolling wheels.
